Infernals Species Pack

Released: 11/25/2025 · Price: ~$15 (check the Steam store for current pricing) · Rating 3.5/5

Infernals released alongside patch 4.2, and Paradox has described it as their most ambitious species pack to date — beyond the usual new portraits and civics, it adds a full player-playable crisis path themed around consuming the galaxy in fire.

What’s actually in it

The Infernals are adapted to extreme heat and volatile environments, with two new origins tied to that theme. Volcanic Worlds are a new planet class with their own districts, events, and archaeological sites — not just a palette swap of an existing planet type. The crisis path lets you actively play as an aggressive, destruction-themed empire rather than only ever defending against a scripted crisis.

A note on reception

Like BioGenesis and Shadows of the Shroud, this DLC’s Steam reviews have landed in “Mixed” territory (around 40% positive) rather than the stronger reception typical of Stellaris’s classic expansions. The player crisis path is a genuinely interesting concept — whether the execution lands for you is worth checking in current reviews before buying.

What's Included

Pros

  • The player-playable crisis path is a meaningfully different feature from a typical species pack
  • Volcanic Worlds add a genuinely new planet class rather than reskinning an existing one

Cons

  • Community reception has been mixed since launch, consistent with the other Season 09 content
  • As a species pack, value depends heavily on whether the specific theme appeals to you

Is It Worth It?

Paradox has called this their most ambitious species pack yet, and the player crisis path is a genuinely distinct feature — but like the other Season 09 releases, Steam reviews have sat around 40% positive rather than solidly positive. If a heat/volcano-themed species and an alternate crisis path interest you, it's worth a look, but check current reviews before buying at full price.
