Machine Empire Assimilation Build
Machine empires that lean into assimilation don’t use standard pop mechanics — instead, they expand by converting conquered biological pops into machine units through the Assimilation citizenship system, a real and specific mechanic (pops undergoing it show as “Undergoing Assimilation” before completing the process).
Why A-tier
Assimilation gives a machine empire a natural immunity to ethic drift and faction issues, and expansion efficiency is very high. The trade-off is a significant diplomatic hit — most other empires react negatively to assimilation as a practice — which is why this is A-tier rather than an unconditional S.
The Memory Aggregator authority
If your empire is built around cybernetic/machine authority choices, Memory Aggregator is a real, specific authority option worth prioritizing for this build: it grants +1 mechanical pop assembly, -5% empire size from pops, +1 machine species trait pick, and meaningful Unity/Research bonuses scaled to your assimilated pop count (replacing standard civic and tradition bonuses for those resources). This directly rewards the assimilation-focused playstyle rather than being a generic machine-empire pick.
What to do early
- Prioritize conquering planets with larger populations before assimilating — the Memory Aggregator’s per-assimilated-pop bonuses scale with how many pops you’ve actually converted, so bigger targets pay off more over time.
- Prioritize civics and authority choices that boost production conversion efficiency — machine unit output works fundamentally differently from biological empires, so you can’t just copy a standard expansion strategy directly.
- Prepare mentally for deteriorating relations with neighbors, and consider prioritizing a military-first development path for self-defense if needed.
Mid-game direction
Mid-game, consider prioritizing ascension perks tied to machine ascension (see Ascension Perks wiki entry) to further boost production conversion efficiency, creating a positive feedback loop between expansion and productivity.
(Editorial note: an earlier version of this build used the title “Driven Assimilator” and referenced civics/traits by that name — none of which could be confirmed against the archived data. This entry replaces the government/authority framing with Memory Aggregator, a confirmed real authority with genuinely relevant bonuses, and confirms Assimilation itself as a real citizenship mechanic. However, the trait “Efficient Processors” could not be confirmed or denied — the archived Species_traits.txt doesn’t include a complete list of machine species starting traits, so this is flagged as medium-confidence rather than fully verified, consistent with this project’s confidence-tagging convention.)
