Wormhole Rush Opening Build
The core idea behind a wormhole rush is to use your origin’s built-in or early-tech wormhole network to grab resource points and colony targets outside the normal range of your fleet speed — trading speed for a positional advantage.
Why B-tier
The early expansion speed advantage is real, but wormhole networks are less reliable to control than normal shipping lanes — if a key node gets cut off, your expansion route can be interrupted mid-plan. It requires more skill and a bit more luck than a standard expansion build, hence B rather than a higher tier.
What to do early
- Map out exactly which resource points and colony targets your wormhole network can reach, and send science and construction ships to claim key nodes as fast as possible.
- Prioritize civics that reduce migration/construction costs, to convert your resource lead directly into expansion speed.
- Plan at least minimal defense for your key wormhole nodes ahead of time — don’t let your expansion route get severed in one clean cut from an opponent.
Risk warning
A wormhole rush is sensitive to your neighbors’ tech level and military strength. If a neighbor is clearly ahead militarily, pushing blindly through the wormhole can turn into wasted resources or worse, getting counter-attacked. Scout ahead with a survey ship to confirm the route is safe before committing.
