A Curious Signal

A Curious Signal is a barren-world anomaly unavailable to Gestalt Consciousness empires (its rewards are framed around individual citizen happiness and ethics, which don’t apply to a hive mind or machine intelligence in the same way).

The choice

• A straightforward Unity payout (150-1,000): useful if you’re mid-way through a tradition tree and want to accelerate toward the next unlock.
• A temporary happiness and ethics-attraction boost: +10% Citizen Pop Happiness plus a large, temporary boost to Xenophile ethics attraction for five years. This is the more situational option — most valuable if you’re actively trying to shift your empire’s ethics balance toward Xenophile, or if a happiness boost would help stabilize a currently unstable planet.

When to pick which

If you’re not actively managing ethics drift, take the Unity — it’s simple, immediately useful, and doesn’t require any specific strategic context to benefit from. The ethics-attraction option is a niche pick, but a strong one if you’re deliberately trying to nudge your empire toward Xenophile ethics within the next five years.
