Sector Management
Sectors are the management unit that groups your planets together, with adjustable automation levels — the core tool for reducing micromanagement in a large empire.
As your empire grows, manually managing every single planet quickly becomes unrealistic. Sectors let you group planets and set an automation level per group, helping you strike a balance between fine control and simply not drowning in micromanagement.
How to set automation levels
- Early game / core worlds: manage manually. Careful building and job allocation maximizes output efficiency.
- Mid-to-late game outer sectors: raise automation levels appropriately, freeing up your attention for higher-level decisions instead of getting bogged down in repetitive micromanagement.
When automation doesn’t match your expectations
If automated allocation isn’t matching what you’d want (e.g. resource type allocation feels off), you can switch a specific key planet back to manual management rather than making an all-or-nothing decision for the entire sector — mixing manual and automated management within the same sector is perfectly viable.
Getting comfortable with sector automation tuning is the key step in moving from “new-player scramble” to confidently running a large empire — pairs well with the early-game pacing advice in the Beginner’s Guide.
